Introduction

No major shockwaves in the occupier market in 2022 despite economic uncertainties

2022 was clearly an eventful year for the Dutch economy as throughout the year inflation was at its highest rate since 1975, which affected all parts of the Dutch economy.

The consequences for trade and industry in the Netherlands were mainly on the costs side: not only were the costs of capital higher but the purchasing costs of commodities also rose. The mood among consumers too became considerably more negative towards the end of the year and not without reason: household budgets had become much more expensive due to the rise in gas and energy prices and the higher prices of daily necessities. These shock waves will eventually impact the property market. So, to what extent has last year’s ‘purchasing power crisis’ already changed the demand for property from occupiers?
